Received a letter from JD today offering special incentives to trade in my existing tractor on a new one. Here's an excerpt:"We appreciate that you were amoung the first to invest in a 4000 Series Tractor. Now, we are please to reward your confidence in us - by offering you a brand new 4000 Series model at terms not available to the general public."Has anyone else who received this letter contacted their dealer to find out if this is worthwhile? tia

Thanks everyone for the feedback - have attached/detached/attached the loader with no problems. Shut-off valve Warrent suggested sounds like a good idea. Maybe a project for some rainy afternoon.

You might also want to checkout a new 790 with loader. Probably a bit more than the used 850 but with 30 HP, 4WD and a 2 year warranty. Just a thought...

I bought my 4400 back in Dec-1998 with a 430 loader and 60" midmount mower. If you're concerned about mower clearance, I've never had any problems. However, you won't be able to mount the rear tires in their widest possible position. Because my 4400 had the original front axle, I did experience the scuffing problem documented elsewhere on this board. My dealer recently replaced the original front axle with the new design (no charge - under warranty) - scuffing is no longer a problem. Other problems - my dash panel fogged up (also mentioned on this board by other 4000 owners)but the dealer fixed that too. The mower and loader work very well and the tractor has plenty of power. I've been very happy with the tractor - no regrets whatsoever. Good luck.

I couldn't have said it better myself - [fortunately] you're in the minority... You've got it all figured out and the millions of other investors in publicly traded companies don't really understand about shareholder value and EPS. I guess the thousands of Deere customers who are willing to pay $20K for a tractor and wait weeks/months to take delivery have all been hoodwinked into buying a poor quality product. Yes Mario, unlike you I'm the real deal - I actually own a 4000 series tractor (do you???). Is it perfect - no. Have I had problems - yes. Am I happy with the tractor - yes. Would I recommend a 4000 series to someone else - absolutely. Do I knock other tractor owners just because they don't drive the same color tractor I do - no. You wouldn't by chance be related to Kubota Man would you? Get a life... :-))

Mel,<br>Can't help you with #1 (yes - I too have experienced the scuffing on my 4400 but just got in the habit of making easier turns; haven't tried adjusting the toe in). Regarding the HOT air, sounds like you definitely have a problem. When using the tractor, I am frequently in shorts and sneakers - I've never experienced any discomfort (nor does my left foot get the slightest bit warm...). If closer inspection doesn't reveal the cause of this problem, sounds like a warranty item for the dealer to fix. Good luck. :-))

I've had my 4400 HST since last December - it currently has about 120 hours on it. Mostly used for mowing and light loader work. Prior to that I owned an 855. In general, I think your comments and observations are right on the money. I would add a couple of other (mostly minor) items: 1) the seat on the 4000's offers more adjustments - I prefer it to the seat on my 855 (you mentioned the seat also...), 2) the retractable seatbelt is a better setup than the seatbelts on the 855, 3) the folding ROPS is great for those of us with limited garage door clearance, 4) I prefer the 4000's headlight arrangement (front of tractor vs. mounted in rear fenders on the 855), 5) some of the control levers are flimsy (need to use more/thicker steel) on the 4000 and the plastic knobs have a tendency to come off if you're not careful, 6) the 855 included a cover for the rear PTO shaft, the 4000's don't, 7) on the 855, you could engage the mid-PTO, the rear-PTO, or both; on the 4000's you cannot engage the mid-PTO independently of the rear-PTO, and 8) the control panel tends to

Jim,<br>On the last 2 JD's I have purchased, the dealer has included the grill guard, bucket level indicator AND ballast box with the loader purchase. You might want to have a little chat with your dealer? You've just spent $20K+ for a new tractor/loader and now the dealer is going to nickel and dime you for the ballast box? Doesn't sound right...
